An E-Mail's Most Important Words

By Marty Nemko

You've painstakingly crafted an important document and finally breathe a sigh of relief as you press "send" and your e-mail is teleported to the recipient's inbox. Problem is, your e-mail may never get read. One reason is that unless your e-mail is clearly identifiable as non-spam, the recipient may not even open it, thinking it's yet another solicitation for a porn website or get-rich-quick scheme. So, to reduce your risk of being ignored, make the most of your e-mail's subject line. For example, if you're sending a solicited resume to Janet Smith, write, "As requested, Janet."
