Serendipity Can Happen

By Marty Nemko

Randy was as laconic a client as I can recall: one-word answers delivered with the passion of a high school class reciting the Pledge of Allegiance. The last career I could imagine him in was sales. Shows you what I know! While vacationing in Europe, Randy made friends with a yacht dealer who asked if, for fun, Randy would like to be a yacht salesman for a day. As it happened, Randy's low-key, non-salesmanlike style worked magic on the customers: he sold two yachts that day. Randy's current career goal? You guessed it: sales. The moral: Be open to serendipity.
