Successful Short One-on-One Talks

By Marty Nemko

When talking with someone, sit down, even if it's just for a minute or two. It lets them know you take them seriously. Take notes-then they really think you're taking them seriously. When you're in a rush, say "I have X minutes to spend with you right now, and if we'll need more time, just say so and I'll schedule a follow-up meeting." Usually, that results in people coming to the point quickly and often miraculously, all gets accomplished in the time allotted.
