A Job Search is Like A Rose Seed

By Marty Nemko

For every 100 rose seeds you plant, only one or two will produce a pretty flower. Of course, you don't know which one or two, so you must water all 100 seeds until they bloom. It's the same with your job search. Start by phoning or writing 100 people with the potential to hire you or who might know someone who could. Out of those 100, you'll probably have a valuable interaction with perhaps ten. Of those ten, some will refer you to someone else. The rest will chat with you. Continue to water these relationships--by checking back, making proposals, sending articles of interest, and your job prospects should be rosy.

Make a list of people you should contact.
