My Key to Efficiency

By Marty Nemko

A boss of mine called me "Lightning" because I get stuff done fast. People often ask me how I do it. One key is that when doing most tasks, I'm continually asking myself, "Is this the shortest route to getting this done?" It's as though there's a tiny efficiency expert constantly whispering in my ear: "Is this the fastest way? Is this sidepath really necessary?" Of course, speed can kill--quality as well as people. So, there's a counterbalancing voice always asking myself, "Is the quality high enough?" So, I guess the secret to my efficiency: hearing voices.

What can you do today?
When doing your next task, frequently ask yourself, "Is this the most efficient way?"
