Why Men Earn More

By Marty Nemko

I recently attended a talk given by Dr. Warren Farrell. He cites abundant evidence that the statistic that women earn 76 cents on the dollar compared with men is misleading. For the same work, in most fields, women earn as much or more than men do. He asserts that the main reason women earn less is that they choose to trade money for quality of life. More often than men, women choose jobs that are not physically dangerous, are close to home, don’t require 50+-hour workweeks, offer autonomy, fulfillment, and don’t require extensive travel. I’ve read his book, Why Men Earn More: The Startling Truth Behind the Pay Gap and What Women Can Do About it and it’s a well-documented eye-opener.
