Winning the End Game
By Marty NemkoJobs are often won or lost after the interview. A few days after sending your thank-you note, call to ask where you stand. If you're not the front-runner, ask, "Does anything make you hesitant to hire me?" If a concern is raised, explain why it's unjustified (if it is), have a reference do so, or offer a work sample: for example, a piece of writing or a one-day trial. End the call by enthusiastically reaffirming your interest in the job. Also, consider asking one of your references to phone the employer to sing your praises.
